My work was selected by the San Francisco Arts Commission for their 2D Artwork Purchase Program for the 49 South Van Ness Building, headquarters for SF’s Department of Public Works. My painting for this project is from a series called Deep in the Willowwacks, and this surreal landscape takes the viewer on a fantastical journey through densely woven imagery that has both realistic and abstract elements. Menlo Park Mural
Elevate Art Menlo Park commissioned Carrie Lederer to create their first mural project for this new public art organization. Located at Menlo Church on the side of the Teen Center, the title of the mural is Under the Wide Sky We Gather.

Under the Wide Sky We Gather, 2021, Painting on vinyl, 60” x 180”
Location: 932 Santa Cruz Avenue, Menlo Park, CA 94025
Carrie Lederer is inspired by the bold and delicate forms that exist in nature. The tapestry-like image is orderly, but in disarray. It’s realistic, but also abstract. And like the ecosystem that surrounds us, one hub of activity finds a connection and entwines into the next.

A young local art enthusiast gives her friends and family a tour of Lederer’s mural – she’s a junior docent in the making, and amazingly, dressed to match!
Lederer is interested in micro and macro perspectives to convey the mysterious realms of the natural world. Her image transports viewers across land and sky, illuminating a path to the deep, dark recesses of our universe. The magical terrain conveys the rustle of the wind, the flow of water, and the chatter of animals that happens all around us every day. The work stems from a personal curiosity about nature and our connection to it.
